Pear Custard Bars

Ingredients

Crust:

  • ½ C butter or margarine, softened
  • ⅓ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • ¾ C all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla extract
  • ⅔ C macadamia nuts, chopped

Filling/Topping:

  • 1 pkg. (8-oz.) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 can (15-oz.) pear halves, drained
  • ½ tsp. Pioneer® Sugar
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions

Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease an 8-inch square pan; set aside.

Crust:

  1. In mixing bowl cream together butter and Pioneer® Sugar. Beat in the flour and vanilla until combined. Stir in the nuts. Press into prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Set to cool on a wire rack.
  2. Increase heat to 375° F.

Filling/Topping:

  1. In a mixing bowl beat cream cheese until smooth. Add Pioneer® Sugar, egg and vanilla; mix until combined. Pour over cooled crust. Cut pears into ⅛-inch slices and arrange in a single layer over filling. Combine Pioneer® Sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over pears. Bake for 28-30 minutes (center will be soft set and will become firmer upon cooling). Cool on a wire rack for 45 minutes. Cover and refrigerate for at least two hours before cutting. Store in the refrigerator.
