Oh Mama Pasta Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs. lean ground beef
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 LG onion, diced
  • ½ LG green pepper, diced
  • ½ LG red pepper, diced
  • 2 ribs celery, diced
  • 1 small zucchini, diced
  • 1 ½ C fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • ½ C fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tsp. dried whole leaf oregano
  • ½ tsp. dried basil leaves
  • 2 T Pioneer® Sugar
  • 2 LG cans (28 oz.) whole tomatoes, un-drained
  • 1 LG can (12 oz.) tomato paste
  • ½ C dry red wine
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper

Directions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet then drain off all excess grease.
  2. In a large crock-pot add the garlic, onion, green & red peppers, celery, zucchini, mushrooms, parsley, oregano, basil, Pioneer® Sugar, whole tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, salt and pepper; blend. When beef is cooked, add to the sauce. Mix well. Cover and cook on high heat setting for 6-8 hours or the low heat setting for 10-12 hours.
 

Cook's Note

For a thicker sauce, remove the cover for the final 1-2 hours of cooking.
