Loaf O’ Gold Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 C Pioneer® Sugar
  • 1 ¾ C all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ C butter or margarine, softened
  • 5 large egg yolks or 6 medium egg yolks
  • ¾ C milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Orange Glaze:

  • ½ C orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • ½ tsp. grated orange zest
  • 1 C Pioneer® Confectioners Powdered Sugar, sifted

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease and flour a 9 x 5-inch bread pan; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl sift together Pioneer® Sugar, flour, salt and baking powder. Add butter, egg yolks, milk and vanilla; mix well. Spoon batter prepared pan. Bake for 60-70 minutes. Remove from oven and set on wire rack and cool thoroughly. While bread is cooling prepare orange glaze.

Orange Glaze:

  1. In a medium sauce pan, combine orange juice, orange zest and Pioneer® Confectioners Powdered Sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it comes to a boil. When bread is cooled, remove from the baking pan and place on waxed paper. Poke holes in the top of the bread with a fork, cake testing tool, or long toothpick. Pour the warm glaze a little at time over the top to fully saturate the bread.
