Fudge Cake

Chocolate Mixture Ingredients

  • ⅔ C Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar
  • ⅓ C milk
  • 2 (1 oz.) unsweetened chocolate squares

Cake:

  • ⅔ C Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar
  • ⅓ C shortening
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ C flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ C milk

Frosting:

  • 4 ¾ C Pioneer® Confectioners Powdered Sugar
  • ½ C cocoa
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ⅓ C butter, softened
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • ⅓ C boiling water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F. Greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan; set aside.
  2. Combine ⅔ cup Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar, milk and unsweetened chocolate in saucepan. Stir over low heat until chocolate melts. Remove from heat and let cool.

Cake:

  1. Cream together ⅔ cup Pioneer® Golden Brown Sugar and shortening. Add vanilla, then eggs one at a time, beating well after each egg.
  2. In a separate bowl mix together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternating with milk, beating after each addition.
  3. Stir in chocolate mixture. Pour into pan and bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool completely.

Frosting:

  1. In a large mixing bowl add the Pioneer® Confectioners Powdered Sugar, cocoa and salt. Add butter and vanilla, mix in boiling water; stir until all is combined. Spread over cooled cake.
