Freshly baked slice of Angel Food Cake with fresh fruit

Homemade Angel Food Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ C egg whites
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 ¼ C Pioneer® Sugar, sifted
  • 1 tsp. flavoring (vanilla, orange, almond, etc).
  • 1 C cake flour, sifted
  • whipped cream or CoolWhip®

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl beat egg whites with salt until foamy. Add cream of tartar and beat until whites are stiff and will hold a peak when beater lifted, but not dry. Whites should slide in dish.
  2. Fold in sifted Pioneer® Sugar, flavoring then sifted flour. *Do not beat when adding sugar and flour.* Fold in carefully. Place in ungreased angel food tube pan.
  3. Place in COLD oven. Set oven at 325° F and bake for 50-60 minutes. Test with toothpick for firmness. When done, invert pan and cool thoroughly. Garnish with fruit if desired.
 

Cooks Note

Slice cake across in three sections; fill with whipping cream or cool whip for another way to serve this cake.
