apple fritters with icing sugar and cinnamon fried on pan for child

Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings

Ingredients

  • 4 LG apples
  • 1 C flour
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 2 T Pioneer® Sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 LG egg, beaten
  • 1 C buttermilk
  • vegetable or canola oil for frying

Topping:

  • ½ C Pioneer® Sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Directions

  1. In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, Pioneer® Sugar, salt and cinnamon together; set aside.
  2. In a small bowl combine the egg and buttermilk together.
  3. In a third dish make your cinnamon-sugar topping by stirring the ingredients together; set aside.
  4. Core the apples then slice into rings, about ¼-inch thick.
  5. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat to 350° F.
  6. As the oil is heating combine the flour mixture with the milk mixture. Dip the apple rings in the batter one at a time, removing any dripping excess by tapping the ring against the side of the bowl. Gently place the battered ring into the hot oil. Fry the rings in small batches, turning them to ensure browning on both sides.
  7. When the rings are golden and crispy, transfer them to a plate lined with paper towel for a few seconds. Then quickly transfer the apple rings, one by one, into the cinnamon-sugar topping, coating each ring evenly with the sugar. Transfer to a wire rack or plate and serve warm.
