We have our winners from the annual Squashtoberfest held on October 24, 2017. Contestants from all over Michigan competed at Zehnders of Frankenmuth making soups and savory dishes out of various types of squash. Then later the contestants brought in their sweet desserts for judging. Prizes totaling for each category were $350.00 plus Pioneer® Sugar and other prizes.

Winning recipes from the Soup Category – Laura Allen of Coldwater, MI took first place with her Sweet and Smokey Squash & Ham Chowder; Caressa Trice of Saginaw, MI took second place with Cheesy Butternut Squash Chili with Hot Water Cornbread; and Betty Timmreck of Eau Claire, MI took third with Bountiful Harvest Zucchini Chowder.

Winning recipes from the Sweet Category – Susan Nickels of Farmington, MI took first place with Pumpkin Ginger Crumb Cake with Cinnamon Whipped Cream Topping; Carol Socier of Bay City, MI won second place with Praline Pumpkin Zucchini Torte with Caramel Crème Filling & Topping and Donna Bardocz of Howell, MI took third with Enchanted Pumpkin Cake.

Winning Recipes from the Savory Category – taking first place with her Zucchini Spinach Lasagna Rolls was Connie Vaughn of Sterling Heights, MI; Pamela Gilbeau of Dearborn, MI took second place with Squash Stew; taking third place with her Squash Tacos with Hot Sausage was Julia Jones of Bay City, MI.

On a side contest, we offer 14 contestants to bring in Jams, Jellies or Preserves for cash and sugar prizes as the guests choose the winners. The first place winning Jam was Martie McCartin of Brighton, MI with Peach Palooza Jam; second place went to Pamela Hornbacher-Retzler of Caro, MI with Christmas Jam and Lois Spruytte from Richmond, MI took third place with Farmhouse Fig & Pear Jam.
