Homemade Barbecue Meatballs

Ingredients

Meatball:

  • 1 lb. burger
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small green pepper, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ C oatmeal

Homemade Barbecue Sauce:

  • 1 C ketchup
  • ½ C vinegar
  • ¼ C Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp. dry minced onion
  • 2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ C water

Directions

Meatball:

Heat oven to 350° F. In a large bowl mix burger, onion, pepper, egg and oatmeal. Mix well with hands. Take a large tablespoon size amount of beef and shape into a ball. Set on a wire rack placed on top of a baking sheet. Bake meatballs for about 15 minutes or until done (Hint: cook in a muffin pan to help keep the meatball shape) Remove from oven and place meatballs in crock-pot.  

Homemade Barbecue Sauce:

In a small sauce pan add ketchup, vinegar, Pioneer® Golden Light Brown Sugar, minced onion, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce and water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes. For a thinner sauce add more water. Makes approximately two cups. Pour over meatballs in crock-pot and cook on low for 3 hours.
